November 1st Daily Devotion - Day 4
The Gift That Demands Gratitude
Reading: Romans 6:23 -- Paul contrasts the consequence of sin, which is death, with the gift of God, which is eternal life made available through Jesus Christ.
Devotional: Every genuine act of thanksgiving begins with an honest recognition of what we have been given. Romans 6:23 draws the sharpest possible contrast: what we deserve versus what we have received. The wages of sin are earned. A gift is not. Eternal life is not something any person can work toward, purchase, or manufacture. It is given freely by a God who was under no obligation to give it. If you have received that gift, you have already been handed the single greatest reason for gratitude that exists. No circumstance, no loss, no difficulty can take that from you. The gift remains. Let that anchor your thankfulness every day.
Reflection: When did you last pause to reflect on the weight of what salvation actually cost and what it actually means for your eternity? How does that reality shift your perspective on present difficulties?
Practical Application: Share the reason for your gratitude with someone this week -- whether through a conversation, a note, or a simple act of kindness that points back to the grace you have received.
