September 27th Daily Devotion - Day 1

The One Thing That Matters

Reading: Luke 10:38-42 — In this passage, Martha is consumed by the demands of hospitality while her sister Mary sits at Jesus' feet, giving Him her full and undivided attention. When Martha complains, Jesus gently corrects her, affirming that Mary has chosen the one thing truly necessary.

Devotional: In a world that rewards busyness, it is easy to mistake activity for devotion. We fill our days with good things — responsibilities, service, preparation — and yet somehow drift from the one thing that matters most. Mary did not ignore her duties out of laziness. She recognized that in the presence of Jesus, nothing else could compete. What distractions have quietly crowded out your time at His feet? Today, lay down your to-do list, even briefly, and simply be with Him. His presence is the one thing no circumstance can take from you.

Reflection Question: What good things in your daily life have become substitutes for genuine time in God's presence?

Practical Application: Set aside fifteen minutes today with no agenda. No prayer list, no worship playlist, no Bible study outline. Simply sit in silence and invite God into that moment. Let Him speak.
