October 18th Daily Devotion - Day 2
What Is in the House
Reading: 2 Kings 4:1-7 — This passage recounts the story of a widow in desperate need who approaches the prophet Elisha; with only a small jar of oil, she follows his instructions in faith and watches God multiply what she has to meet and exceed her need.
Devotional: The widow had a problem. The creditor was coming. Her sons were at risk. And when the man of God asked what she had in the house, her answer was almost apologetic: nothing but a little oil. But that little oil was everything God needed. He did not require abundance before He could move. He required availability and obedience. What you have may seem small. Your faith may feel like a single jar. Your resources may appear laughably insufficient for the size of your problem. But God is not looking for what impresses the world. He is looking for a willing vessel. Do not despise what is in your house. It may be the very thing God intends to use.
Reflection: What has God already placed in your life that you have been overlooking or undervaluing?
Practical Application: Make a list of the gifts, relationships, and resources God has given you. Pray over that list and ask God how He wants to use what is already in your house.
