Tears That Still Speak

Reading: John 11:17-35 — Lazarus has been dead four days when Jesus arrives in Bethany. Martha runs to meet Him standing, while Mary falls at His feet weeping. When Jesus sees Mary's grief and the mourning of those around her, He is deeply moved. He asks where Lazarus has been laid, and Scripture records the shortest yet most profound verse in the Bible — Jesus wept.

Devotional: There is a profound difference between Martha's standing conversation and Mary's weeping at Jesus' feet. Both women said the same words, yet something in Mary's posture moved Jesus in a way that Martha's did not. This is not a statement against Martha's faith. It is a reminder that when words run out, tears still speak. David understood this, crying out in Psalm 39:12 that God would hear his weeping. If you have prayed yourself beyond words today, know that your tears are not silence. They are a language God hears perfectly.

Reflection Question: Have you ever felt that your prayers were inadequate because you could not find the right words? How does it change your perspective to know that God hears what your tears are saying?

Practical Application: Write down one burden you have been carrying that feels too heavy to put into words. Bring it before God today, even if all you can offer is honest silence and tears. Trust that He is moved by what He sees.
