September 27th Daily Devotional - Day 5

Nothing Else Will Do

Reading: Philippians 3:7-11 — Paul declares that everything he once counted as gain he now considers loss compared to the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus his Lord. He counts all things as rubbish in order that he might gain Christ and be found in Him, knowing the power of His resurrection and the fellowship of His sufferings.

Devotional: The song sung during the worship service described in this content captures the heart of Paul's declaration: if the highest place reached is at Jesus' feet, then everything has been accomplished. If the greatest sight seen is His glory, then everything worth seeing has been seen. No treasure of this life could ever truly satisfy. This is not a passive resignation to a lesser life. It is the bold declaration of someone who has tasted the presence of God and found that nothing else compares. Paul did not arrive at this conclusion easily. It cost him everything. But he called it gain. Whatever you are holding onto today that competes with Christ for first place — release it. Nothing else will do.

Reflection Question: What does your daily life reveal about what you are actually pursuing as your greatest treasure? Does the evidence of your time, energy, and attention point toward Christ or toward something else?

Practical Application: Read Philippians 3:7-11 slowly and prayerfully three times today. After the third reading, write one sentence that honestly describes where Christ ranks among your current priorities. Then write one sentence describing where you want Him to rank. Bring the gap between those two sentences to God in prayer.
