November 1st Daily Devotion - Day 2
Thankful in Every Circumstance
Reading: 1 Thessalonians 5:16-18 -- Paul instructs believers to rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in all circumstances, identifying this as God's will for those who belong to Christ.
Devotional: Gratitude is not a feeling that comes naturally when life is hard. It is a discipline, a choice, and ultimately an act of faith. Scripture does not tell us to be thankful for every circumstance, but rather in every circumstance. There is a meaningful difference. We are not required to call suffering good. We are invited to trust that God is present within it. The ten lepers in Luke 17 were all healed, but only one returned to give thanks. Gratitude is not automatic, even among those who have received great blessing. Cultivate it intentionally, especially when it does not come easily.
Reflection: Is there a current difficulty in your life where you have found it hard to maintain a posture of gratitude? What would it look like to thank God not for the struggle, but within it?
Practical Application: Write down three things God has done for you in the past that you know to be true, regardless of what is happening in your life right now. Return to that list whenever the present circumstance tempts you toward despair.
