September 20th Daily Devotion - Day 3
Worship in Spirit and in Truth
Reading: John 4:19-26
Devotional: Jesus told a woman at a well that the Father is seeking worshipers who will worship Him in spirit and in truth. He was not describing a style of music or a format of service. He was describing a posture of the heart. True worship is not a performance offered to impress others. It is an honest encounter with God that flows from a genuine relationship with Him. The woman at the well had been searching for something real in all the wrong places. Jesus offered her exactly that. Authentic worship begins when we stop pretending and start bringing our actual selves before the God who already knows us completely.
Reflection: Are there ways in which your worship has become more routine than genuine? What would it take to make it real again?
Practical Application: Before your next time of corporate or private worship, take two minutes to be still and honestly examine your heart. Ask the Holy Spirit to move you from going through the motions into genuine encounter.
