September 6th Daily Devotions - Day 2
Day 2: Sitting at His Feet Before Getting to Work
Reading: Luke 10:38-42 — Martha busies herself with preparations while Mary sits at Jesus's feet. Jesus affirms that Mary has chosen what is most necessary.
Devotional: The church is full of Marthas. We plan events, build programs, manage budgets, and fill calendars. None of these things are wrong. But Jesus was clear that only one thing is truly needed. The pastor shared a question posed by a seasoned minister: not how many hours do you work, but how much time do you sit at Jesus's feet? Activity without intimacy produces burnout, not breakthrough. The Mary posture is not laziness. It is the foundation from which all genuine Kingdom work flows. Before you serve today, sit. Before you plan, listen. Before you act, abide.
Reflection Question: Is your spiritual life more characterized by activity or by intimacy with God?
Practical Application: Before checking your phone or beginning your daily tasks, spend fifteen minutes simply sitting in God's presence with no agenda. No requests. Just nearness.
