October 11th Daily Devotion - Day 4

Corporate Worship and the Battle That Belongs to God

Reading: 2 Chronicles 20:15-22 — The account of King Jehoshaphat facing an overwhelming enemy army. God instructs the people not to be afraid because the battle belongs to Him. Jehoshaphat sends the worshipers out ahead of the army, and as they begin to praise, God moves on their behalf.

Devotional:
There is something that happens in corporate worship that cannot be fully replicated in private devotion. As the pastor said from the pulpit, "In corporate worship, I'm like, let's fight. Like, let's go. Because something changes."
Jehoshaphat understood this. Facing impossible odds, he did not send soldiers first. He sent worshipers. And as they lifted their voices together in praise to God, the enemy was defeated before a single sword was drawn.
When Sister Kathy described walking into the sanctuary barely able to stand, dizzy and struggling, and then finding that the presence of God in corporate worship moved her body in ways she had not experienced in months, that is Jehoshaphat's army. That is what happens when God's people gather and worship together with everything they have.
Your battle may feel overwhelming today. But God has already declared that it belongs to Him.

Personal Reflection: Are you consistently showing up for corporate worship, or have you been trying to fight your battles alone? What would it mean to trust that the battle belongs to God?

Practical Application: Commit to attending corporate worship consistently for the next four weeks. Before you arrive each time, pray and ask God to meet you specifically in that gathering. Keep a journal of what He does in those moments.
